Doodles & Scribbles

Yesterday I had a drawing lesson which tbh I wasn't looking forward to as i'm not the best when it comes down to it. At first we were told to draw a circle, square & triangle which we then turned into 3d shapes.

Then we had to just doodle for 15 minutes which I loved haa of ideas for our ident. I want to scan mine in the computer to upload on here but the scanner won't work at the mooo so I will do it asap :)

I did really enjoy the lesson however I felt really ill during it ( think it may have something to do with my boyfriend cooking me dinner the night before ) so i left a bit early but I am really looking forward to next week & seeing what we have to do :)

Animation. Toy Story 3 (LLL) !

Obviously a tv ident is a little more easier to produce than a animated film & even though I can't use the software for the life of me I would love to beable to produce something like this hahaaa...

Favourite film everrr !

First Day At Animation

Today was my first seminar of animation & to put it simply I found it the most frustrating thing I have ever had to do. What made it even worse was that everyone seemed to really get the hang of it haa.

We had the task to make the word JELLY animate. We had instuctions on paper to follow and even then I managed to mess it up:

Andy then gave me a bit of help and I understood the basics of using text and making it bend etc. I have to use print screen shots to show you what I did as I havent got a clue how to upload it to youtube even though I have seen it on others blogs so it is possible.

I have tried so many times to download the 3dsmax software at home but for some reason it won't install & it would really help if it would as i need to practice about with it.

Tomorrow I have a drawing lesson which I have no idea how that will go seeing as all I can draw is stick people.

NOT enjoying animation at the minute aha, I don't like a challenge I like to be able to do things & do them well :(

Animation Assignment

Looked on the NOW & got told in the first seminar of animation about our assignment which will be due in on 16th Nov.

Imagine that your twitter, blog and Facebook account are all rolled
into one and are actually a cable TV station, your task is to create a
station Ident animation for your cable channel that holds audience
interest in the interval between shows slot.

Use 3ds Max and premier pro to design build and animate a 30
second Ident for “Your Station”

Here are some examples of an ident:

Pecha Kucha Powerpoint

For some reason the storyboard & evalution slides won't show & the font has gone huge. I've tried to change it but it's driving me mad so it will have to stay like that :)

Making New Maps... Hmmmmm

Simon emailed us to tell us that he uploaded the projects to makingnewmaps.com which if you go on can see i look beautiful in my photo nawttttttt. Simon also said in the email that I was a good example of how to do it wrong as i had named my html pages with capitals so they couldnt find my images in my documents ha trust meee.

here is the link to my final intercative space: http://www.makingnewmaps.com/maps/Hollie_Ferguson/index.html

I still have this damn powerpoint to do & have left it until last minute because I dont really have a clue what to doooo?!

Also annoyed that I had my 12th driving test on friday but couldn't do it as My counterpart of my licence literallly has vanished off the surface of the earth so that was a nice £80 down the drain and a nice waiting list until feb 2011 until next tests. brilllliant.

Submitted To The NOW

Finallly after a long stressful 3 weeks uploaded my project to the NOW :)
pretty pleased with the final outcome and we are still aloud to change the project up until December so if I have any more ideas I will consider changing / adding to my assignment.

Last Interactive Space Seminar

Yesterday was the last seminar for interactive space & we all looked amd gave feedback to each others project. I was told my picture quality wasn't great but I already knew this as my camera is fairly old now & I do need to invest in a new oneeee!

The last day to upload the project to the now is 26th oct so I am going to try and edit the photos and little & then upload it :)

I have enjoyed this assignment & although html wasn't the most interesting of topics I thought the idea and concept of the assignment was really good :)

& Just Thought I Would Mention..

About 1pm today I left a blog saying I was downloading 3dsMax to have a go on it before I started the animation group. It had 5 hours to go to download when I blogged that. Now half 7 & still has 4 hours to go?! haahaa

Pecha Kucha?!

For my seminar in context on Tuesday I have been set the task to create a powerpoint of 20 slides lasting a minute. I can only use images & not once say directly what the practise is. Aghh sounds pretty confusing?! So I went back on to the powerpoint it was set & noticed at the top is said Pecha Kucha.

I googled this and there was a website about it - www.pecha-kucha.org

Pecha Kucha is japanese for chit chat.

"PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images forward automatically and you talk along to the images."

This is basically what I have been set to do. To have images that mean something to me about my design process. I am going to have a go at the presentation tonight to show to the class & Jools on Tuesday. I will upload it to my blog when done :)

Ahead Of The Game...

Tomorrow is my last seminar on interactive space & next week I move on to animation so I decided to look on the now at the brief for it and tasks. I now regret this as it looks impossibly hard. I heard from other students that the software 3ds max is really hard to get a grip of so I have downloaded it ( as it is freeee :) ) and was planning to have a look at it today but it currently says another 5 HOURS?! to download haa so maybe have a look at it tomorrow.

I really enjoyed doing interactive space & although html was a bit hard to grasp at first when I got used to the codes it was pretty simple :) my project for space is in on tuesday.

Interactive Space Assignment

I had a 4 hour gap inbetween my lecture & seminar today so started to get to work with the final interactive space project. I added html to each photo on dreamweaver & so far so good! I had the problem of not knowing how to put text on the photo on dreamweaver so i edited in photoshop first, however I have uploaded a photo without adding text and realised it needs text but it has so many html codes leading to different pages I am hoping Andrew can help me in the seminar to add text on dreamweaver.

I used the photos posted in the previous blog & changed them to size 1024 x 768. It was quite frustating to work out what photo linked to what page & I now have about 40 html pages but hopefully it will produce a good project :)

here is the first photo in the sequence that gives an indication to what an interactive space actually is ( click on it to make it bigger):

When you hover over the link for example in this one it is "welcome to our house" a hotspot comes up showing what to do - it says here click here to begin.

Interactive Space Assignment 300 Word Rationale :)

300 word outline of my project - named Double Trouble.

I have aimed this at a young audience around the age of 5 - 8 both male and female. As my audience is young I decided to have characters of a young age - George & Luca (6) ( my twin brothers.) I decided to have the characters as the same age as the target audience because they can relate to them. The narrative is told by George & Luca who tell the user what to do. This is sometimes shown by text, sometimes by tool tips. As the characters are boys and wanted to aim for both sexes I set the photos in my bedroom whic is pink to give more of a female atmosphere.

The idea of the story is more of a game for the audience. They are invited into the house and greeted by George & Luca. There is a shot of them climbing the stairs where the audience is told to click on one of the twins if they want to play.

They then go into "their sisters" room & talk to the audience about the idea of the game they have to play which is for George to hide the ipod and the audience and Luca to find it. I thought this idea would work as younger children all love to annoy their older sibling by going into their room and hiding / touching their stuff. The narrative uses the pronoun "you" to involve the audience & so they feel the twins are actually talking to them.

The game hopefully creates an exciting atmosphere for the user. The use of exclamtion marks show that the mood is fun.

The shot of the whole room has many hidden hotspots in which the user can click if they think the ipod is hidden there like the wardrobe, shelf, bed, shoes & television. If they can get it wrong George & Luca show a sign saying no its not here and have the option to look again or have a clue which takes them to the photo of where the ipod is. When they find it they can then have the option to play again.

Interactive Space Assignment

These are the photos I am going to use for my final assignment for the making new maps site.

After taking forever to upload them all, I realised I hadn't changed the size to 1024 x 768 so will do this on tuesday after my lecture.

My Multimedia

For my context module I have been set the task to talk about a multimedia project I use & enjoy.

When I first got my phone on contract the iPhone wasn't as popular as it is now so I went for a basic phone with a two year contract. The iPhone then became more in demand & everyone seemed to have one. As I still had my contract I brought an ipod touch. It basically has the same features as an iphone minus the texting & calling.

Designed by Apple, the ipod allows me to download apps such as games - doodle jump which is crazily addictive. Social apps such as facebook which I am on all the time :) "whatsapp" which allows me to text/send messages to other people on the iphone/ipod/blackberry. The wifi feature allows me to connect to my internet connection at home ( or wherever there is one for free or I know the password ) & use the internet.

I store all my photos on the ipod touch & it has features such as weather, calender, mail & maps.

The most obvious reason for the ipod is music :) I currently have about 1000 songs which I listen to all the time on train journeys to uni.

Like the iphone there are upgrades I have the 3rd generation ipod touch but they have recently released a new one which now enables users to use video call to each other. People may say it's pointless as it is a product inbetween an ipod & iphone but Apple upgrade their products all the time, so it may seem like a better version of the ipod but now the new ipod has been released people are wanting to buy it so at the end of the day apple still make the money they want :)

I am hoping to get the iPhone when my contract runs out at the start of 2011 but won't be letting my ipod touch go :)

Interactive Space Assignment

Today I am going to take photos for my final interactive space assignment & I have quite a few ideas so will take photos of them all & then see what works best.

Interactive Space Assignment

In todays seminar with Simon we used the images I put on my blog of the narrative sequence in to practice with html. We used dreamweaver to link the photos together which made me start thinking about my final ideas.

here is a screen shot of dreamweaver & how it works with html:

I think the idea of hide and seek works well for interactive space but using my twin brothers was pretty frustrating so i may use an object to represent a person such as a doll or barbie. I found it quite easy to use dreamweaver today but all my photos only linked on to one more, I think when I come to the final project and have an image that could lead to two images things may be a bit complicated.

Over the weekend I am going to draw up a rough storyboard and upload it to the blog & then take photos for tuesdays seminar in which I can get started on linking together & then Andrew / Simon will be on hand for when things get tricky :)

Html

Today in the seminar we learnt the basics of Html. I have used html before on myspace & dreamweaver although this was quite a while ago & my memory isn't great!

Html stands for hypertext markup language. A tag has to be entered for everything you want to do. if you need to return

like this

you need to add the tag < br / >
meaning break.

All html has the basics such as
< html >
< head >
< body >
< br > < b > < i > < u >
< img src="..." >

I've had to leave spaces in between the tags as blogger uses html & if i don't use the space it will apply that code.

Colours can be used by looking at the colour grid for the code and changing it to wherever you want on the html code.

Linking Through Association

Welcome to our house!

Click the doorbell to come in & play!

Hi i'm George! And i'm Luca! We are twins!

Do you want to play a game?! Click on George if you do!

Let's go upstairs & play!

I know what we can play!

I spy with my little eye something beginning with T!

Click on what George is thinking of!

Yes toys!

Luca is bored of this game!

Let's play hide & seek!
1 2 3 4...

He won't find me here!

FOUND YOU!

My turn to count!

I can't find George anywhere!

It's time for our dinner now !

Bye! come again soon!

So this is my first attempt at linking through association, I had the idea in my head but to be honest when putting it into practical mode it didn't work as well as I wanted. It was made in mind for a young audience therefore the characters used are young so they can relate to them. However, it was hard photographing George & Luca and getting them to do what I wanted them to do as they were a bit to young to understand. I think for future reference it would be easier to work with objects & not people.
