A site on web designer's interviews. "Dan Saffer is an experienced design director at the design consultancy Adaptive Path." Dan has been interviewed about his past and present interactive knowledge & education. Images are sometimes used to portray his answers.
When talking about interation design Dan says about needing many other skills within web design - "Tons of other fields like filmmaking, art, psychology, anthropology, library science, physiology, and biology touch on the work we do and knowing even a little of them goes a long way. An ideal interaction designer has some grounding in the humanities and isn't just a wireframe monkey." These skills are needed to beable to know what the client wants & how to go about doing it. Have to apply these skills within the web design skills to make a website that's successful.
An interactive designer needs to know whom they are designing for & the goal they want to be achieved. They then need to create a design strategy - either individually or in a group. A clear strategy helps to know exactly what interactions need to take place.
the Interviewer goes off at the end on a more personal level - eg what drink he prefers to stimulate him, what distracts him whilst working & principles he follows in life & work. Dan still gives answers on a professional level - relating back to interative design as much as he can.
Dan gives good advice on both how to become a good web designer but how to sustain it as a job. After reading this interview I agree with 'Interaction design is an applied art.' He knows his clients needs and wants to deliver the solution to these needs as well as he possibly can.
"If it was easy, then everyone would do it."
