"Digital Me" Week 1 Task - Three Design Evaluations.

Find three interactive content websites/applications that offer unusual or well designed examples of interactive content display.

http://www.youtube.com/skittlespage

What makes the design work & engages the viewer/consumer in using the website?

I think this was originally an advert on t.v and has been put onto the Skittles youtube page which can be accessed through the Skittles website. The design works well in that as well as serving its purpose to sell the product it is also entertaining and engaging the consumer. When in a shop and seeing Skittles they will hopefully remember the "funny advert where the cat licks you" and want to purchase the product. The media is growing so much that there is the benefit to adverts on tv that can now be put onto websites such as youtube and watched over & over again.

Aimed at a site for young children in which they can have their own character and hopefully want to regularly play on the site, the design works in which they will tell parents about it and hopefully they buy the product "Fruitshoot." The child can create and name their own "avatar" and play many interactive games aswell as collecting skills & points and adding other users as "friends" so the child wants to revisit the website.

This site allows the user to design an smartphone case for their phone & then if happy with the design they can go on to buy it. They can use a coloured background or upload a photo they wish to use. Although quite pricey at £35.00 a case.

Why would a consumer revisit these websites again and again?

The consumer woudn't revisit this page to be reminded of what the product is as Skittles are very well known - but to be watched again by people whom are amused by it & want to watch it again for the enteratinment value.

As previously stated the design of the website means the child who has created their own "person" whom they've also named will want to take care of it & return to the game to carry on & earn more points.

Unlike the other two examples this website isn't set up purely for entertainment. The consumer will perhaps revisit the website if satisfied with the product sent to them & they decide they want to create another case and purchase one.

What are their unique selling points?

The unique selling point is very simple but hardly ever done in adverts - talking to & being interactive with the audience. It tells you "to put your index finger on the screen" and you automatically do it. Engaging with the audience - through any source of media, websites, tv & radio will instantly make the audience aware that you are interested in them.

Although the website isn't directly advertising the drink - fully aware young children aren't interested in buying the product but engaging them into the website means they will hopefully tell their parents about the fun they have on the site which is selling the actual product to the parent.

The USP is very simple - in which the user can create their own phone case interactively online before buying it. Unlike most phone cases bought in the shop, they aren't personal to the consumer, this website allows them to not only create their own design but have a personal photo. There are many different styles to design from to cover different personality traits.

If HTML5 how does HTML5 enhance the user experience? Does HTML5 produce different outcomes to Flash?

Not really applicable for this - due to it being a advert on youtube.

What are the implications of using Flash in a tablet era?

Slightly confused by this question but assume it means how does using flash cause implications for products such as the ipad?

It wouldn't for this as the viewer would beable to view youtube on their software - so it has an advantage in this case for this example.

Again doesn't have implications for this example as don't think the target audience will own a smartphone.
